About

Kathiyawadi Kitchen is a home-cooking blog celebrating the food of Saurashtra and Gujarat: dal dhokli, kadhi, thepla, undhiyu, Diwali sweets and savouries, and everyday shaak and rotla.

Why this blog

Gujarati food is often reduced to "sweet dal". The real kitchen, especially in Kathiyawad (Saurashtra), is spicy, earthy and seasonal. We write these recipes in simple English with Hinglish touches so cooks in India and abroad can follow them.

How the recipes are written

  • Clear ingredient lists with cup and spoon measures
  • Step-by-step method with tips on texture and spice
  • Festival planning, for example Diwali snacks and sweets

Recipes are written from standard, traditional ratios. Ovens, flours and spice levels differ, so adjust to your taste and kitchen. Please read our Disclaimer.

Photos on this site are AI-generated illustrations of the dishes.
